Guttering Is The Part Of The Roof That Fails Quietly
A roof leak announces itself. Guttering does the opposite. It rusts from the inside where you cannot see it, sags out of fall a few millimetres at a time, and fills with leaf litter until it stops carrying water at all.
By the time it shows up as a damp patch on an internal wall, the water has usually been running down behind the fascia for a couple of seasons. The fascia timber has gone soft, and sometimes the wall framing behind it has too.
We replace guttering, fascia and downpipes as one system so the water actually gets from the roof to the ground. Colorbond, colour matched to your roof, sized and set to fall properly.

Sized And Set To Fall, Not Simply Hung Straight
A gutter that overflows in every heavy shower is usually not blocked. It is either undersized for the roof area draining into it, or short of downpipes, or it was hung level instead of to a fall.
We work out the catchment area first, size the gutter and the number of downpipes to suit, and set the fall so water moves. It is a few minutes of maths at quote stage that saves you a wet wall for the next twenty years.
- Gutter and downpipe sizing calculated from your actual roof area
- Fascia checked and repaired while the old gutter is off
- Colorbond colour matched to your roof and trim
- Box gutter overflow provision sized to comply
- Old guttering removed and the site cleaned up

Absolutely brilliant to deal with, prompt, efficient, knowledgeable, and his workmanship is amazing. We would definitely recommend Michael and we will be using his services again on some future projects.

We recently bought our house, which was only five years old, and unfortunately discovered extensive roof issues that had not been built to Australian standards. After speaking with several roofers, Michael came across as the most professional and helpful. He was prompt, meticulous, and I couldn't recommend him more highly.

The team was professional and detail-oriented from start to finish. They replaced my old tile roof with a new tin roof, restored damaged areas, and installed new fascia and gutters. Their work quality is outstanding, and they completed everything on time and within budget.

Guttering Questions
Gutter replacement is usually priced on the metres of gutter, the number of downpipes, and how hard the roofline is to reach. A single storey house with good access is straightforward. Two storey work, or a job where the fascia turns out to be rotten, costs more. We measure it up and give you a written quote before starting.
Sometimes, but often not. If they overflow even after a clean, the usual causes are a gutter that is undersized for the roof area, not enough downpipes, or a gutter hung level rather than to a fall. We check all three rather than assuming it is leaf litter.
We clear gutters as part of the roofing work we do, and we always clean them out before we leave a job. If all you need is a routine gutter clean, a gutter cleaning specialist will usually be better value than sending a roof plumber.
If the old gutter has been leaking, very likely yes. You only get to see the fascia when the gutter is off, and hanging new guttering on rotten timber means doing the job twice. We inspect it once the old gutter is down and tell you what we find before going further.
It depends on your trees. Under heavy leaf drop, particularly gums, a good quality guard saves a lot of cleaning and reduces the risk of an overflow going back under the roof. Under a clear roofline it is money you do not need to spend. We will give you a straight answer for your property.
We cover Melbourne's South East, from Cranbourne and Pakenham through to Frankston and the Mornington Peninsula. Check the areas we serve page or call 0478 831 069.
A Closer Look At Guttering And Roof Plumbing
Gutter Installation
New guttering goes on extensions, garages, carports, verandahs and new builds. The part that gets skipped is the sizing. A gutter is not a standard item, it has to carry whatever falls on the roof behind it during the heaviest rainfall the area gets.
We calculate the catchment, pick a profile with enough cross sectional area, and work out how many downpipes it needs and where they go. Then we set it to fall so water runs to the outlets rather than sitting in the low spots.

Old galvanised guttering rusts from the inside out, so by the time you can see it from the ground it has usually been leaking for a while. The tell tale signs are rust stains down the fascia, plants growing in the gutter, and water running over the front edge instead of out the downpipe.
Replacing the gutter is also the only chance you get to see the fascia behind it. We check the timber while it is exposed and deal with any rot then, rather than hanging a new gutter off a board that is halfway gone.

Colorbond guttering comes in the same colour range as the roofing, so you can match the gutter to the roof, contrast it against the fascia, or run the whole roofline in one colour. Quad is the standard domestic profile, half round suits period homes, and square works on contemporary builds.
There are also high front and slotted variants that change how the gutter behaves in an overflow, which matters on a roof where the water has nowhere else to go. We will talk through which suits your place.

The fascia carries the gutter. Once the timber behind a leaking gutter starts to rot, the gutter brackets lose their grip and the whole line begins to sag, which makes the overflow worse and accelerates the rot.
Depending on the condition, we either replace the timber fascia or cap it in Colorbond so it never has to be painted again. On a full roof replacement it makes sense to do the roof, fascia and gutter together while the access is already there.
Full Details On Fascia ReplacementDownpipes
Downpipes are the cheapest part of the system and the one most often short changed. A long run of gutter with a single downpipe at one end will overflow in heavy rain no matter how big the gutter is, because the water cannot get out fast enough.
We add downpipes where the gutter actually needs them, connect them into the stormwater rather than discharging against the wall, and replace the old ones that have split or pulled away from the wall.

Box gutters run between roof planes or behind a parapet, and unlike an eaves gutter, an overflowing box gutter has nowhere to go except into the building. They are the most common cause of serious water damage we get called to on commercial properties and terraces around Melbourne.
A compliant box gutter needs the right fall, a properly formed sump, and overflow provision sized so that if the downpipe blocks the water still escapes outside the building rather than through the ceiling. We rebuild them to that standard.
