A Gutter Is Not A Standard Item
Guttering looks like a commodity. Pick a profile, pick a colour, run it along the edge. That is how a lot of it gets installed, and it is why so many houses have gutters that overflow in every decent shower.
A gutter has to carry whatever lands on the roof behind it during the heaviest rain your area gets. Double the roof area feeding into it and you need considerably more capacity, or more downpipes, or both.
Get the sizing wrong on a new install and you have built in a problem that will show up as water against the wall for as long as the building stands.
- Gutter capacity chosen by habit rather than roof area
- A long run served by a single downpipe at one end
- Guttering hung level instead of to a fall
- Downpipes discharging against the wall instead of into stormwater
- No overflow path if the downpipe blocks

Work Out The Catchment First
We measure the roof area draining into each run, then size the gutter profile and work out how many downpipes it needs and where they should go. It is a few minutes at quote stage that determines whether the thing works for the next twenty years.
Then it goes up to a consistent fall towards the outlets, with brackets at the right spacing so it does not sag between them and start ponding.
Downpipes get connected into the stormwater rather than dumping against the wall or over a garden bed that then washes out.
- Gutter sized from the actual roof catchment area
- Downpipe number and positions calculated, not guessed
- Set to a consistent fall towards the outlets
- Brackets spaced to stop sagging between fixings
- Downpipes connected properly into stormwater

Absolutely brilliant to deal with, prompt, efficient, knowledgeable, and his workmanship is amazing. We would definitely recommend Michael and we will be using his services again on some future projects.

We recently bought our house, which was only five years old, and unfortunately discovered extensive roof issues that had not been built to Australian standards. After speaking with several roofers, Michael came across as the most professional and helpful. He was prompt, meticulous, and I couldn't recommend him more highly.

The team was professional and detail-oriented from start to finish. They replaced my old tile roof with a new tin roof, restored damaged areas, and installed new fascia and gutters. Their work quality is outstanding, and they completed everything on time and within budget.

Gutter Installation Questions
It is generally priced on the metres of gutter, the number of downpipes and how hard the roofline is to reach. A single storey garage or extension is straightforward. Two storey work needing ladders or scaffolding costs more. We measure it and quote in writing.
Quad is the standard domestic profile and suits most homes. Half round works well on period houses, and square suits contemporary builds. There are also high front and slotted variants that change how the gutter handles an overflow. We will recommend based on your roof and the look you want.
It comes from the roof area and the gutter capacity rather than a fixed rule. What we can say is that a single downpipe on a long run is the most common cause of overflow we see, and adding downpipes is the cheapest part of the whole system.
Yes, and we work alongside builders regularly. Getting us in at the right point in the programme means the guttering goes on before the scaffold comes down, which is quicker and cheaper than coming back later.
We can. Whether it is worth it depends on your trees. Under heavy gum leaf drop a good guard saves a lot of cleaning. Under a clear roofline it is money you do not need to spend, and we will say so.
We cover Melbourne's South East, from Cranbourne and Pakenham through to Frankston and the Mornington Peninsula. Check our areas we serve page, or call 0478 831 069 and we will let you know either way.
