The Problem

Old Guttering Rusts From The Inside Out

Guttering sits full of wet leaf litter for months at a time, and that is exactly the condition steel hates. It corrodes from the inside, so by the time you can see rust from the ground it has usually been leaking for a couple of seasons.

Those leaks run down the back of the gutter onto the fascia, which is timber on most Melbourne homes. Once the fascia softens, the gutter brackets lose their grip and the whole line starts to sag, which makes it hold even more water.

The end of that sequence is water running down the external wall, into the eaves, and eventually showing up as damp on an internal wall.

  • Rust stains running down the fascia below the gutter
  • Plants growing out of the gutter
  • Water overflowing the front edge rather than exiting the downpipe
  • A visible sag or dip in a run that should be straight
  • Damp patches on internal walls under the roofline

How We Do It

The Only Time You Get To See The Fascia

The old gutter comes off first, and that exposes the fascia for the only time in its life. We check it there and then, because hanging brand new guttering off timber that is halfway rotten means doing the job twice.

If the fascia needs work we deal with it, either replacing the timber or capping it in Colorbond so it never needs painting again. We show you what we find before going further.

Then the new guttering goes on, sized properly for the roof area, set to fall, with new brackets and downpipes connected into the stormwater.

  • Old guttering removed and taken away
  • Fascia inspected while it is exposed and repaired if needed
  • New gutter sized to the roof area rather than matched blindly
  • Set to a proper fall with brackets at correct spacing
  • Downpipes replaced and reconnected to stormwater

  • Michael B Home Owner

We recently bought our house, which was only five years old, and unfortunately discovered extensive roof issues that had not been built to Australian standards. After speaking with several roofers, Michael came across as the most professional and helpful. He was prompt, meticulous, and I couldn't recommend him more highly.

The team was professional and detail-oriented from start to finish. They replaced my old tile roof with a new tin roof, restored damaged areas, and installed new fascia and gutters. Their work quality is outstanding, and they completed everything on time and within budget.

Asked Questions

Gutter Replacement Questions

  • Usually priced on the metres of gutter, the number of downpipes, and access. A single storey house is straightforward. Two storey work, or a job where the fascia turns out to need replacing, costs more. We measure up and quote in writing, and if we find fascia damage we tell you before doing anything about it.

  • Rust holes, sagging runs and joints that have opened up generally mean the gutter is at the end of its life, and patching one hole in a corroded gutter is a short term fix. If it is sound but blocked or out of fall, that can often be sorted without replacing it.

  • If the old gutter has been leaking for a while, very likely yes. It is the only opportunity you get to see and treat the timber, and it is far cheaper to do it while the gutter is already off. Our fascia page covers it.

  • A typical single storey house is usually a day, sometimes two if there is fascia work or a lot of downpipes. We take the old material away with us the same day.

  • Yes. Colorbond guttering comes in the same colour range as the roofing, so you can match the roof exactly, match the fascia, or deliberately contrast the trim. We will bring samples.

  • We cover Melbourne's South East, from Cranbourne and Pakenham through to Frankston and the Mornington Peninsula. Check our areas we serve page, or call 0478 831 069 and we will let you know either way.
